Which apple to use?
I want to use (and share here) a King Arthur Flour recipe tomorrow, but I have no idea which apples to buy at this time of year. I want to be sure they don't bake up too sweet, or too mushy. I do know I could use Granny Smith's but I am not sure I want apples quite that tart. I will be making three of these cakes, so I could just buy... more »

PING: Miche
On this evening's TV local & national news, (1730; 2010-09-03) there was report of a 7.0 earthquake in Christ Church, NZ. Power outages are a given and expected, of course; there are road blockages as well. I do hope you and yours are minimally impacted, and I wish/hope all the best for those at the epicenter.... more »

I used a tiny bit of sesame oil after plating it. I used cayenne pepper... more »

bread advice
I have a basic recipe for white bread that is very dependable and works great. I have tried to modify it by replacing about half the white flour (I use Cargill "Hummer" high gluten flour) with whole wheat flour, leaving everything else the same, and the results are pretty much uniformly disappointing. The dough becomes sticky and... more »
